Olive oil, pomace
Olive oil, pomace
A reliable, multi-purpose carrier oil for skincare and soapmaking. Pomace olive oil is made from the olive pulp and skins remaining after the first press. The residual oil is gently solvent extracted and then refined, giving a stable, neutral oil with a light colour and minimal scent. It has a naturally high oleic acid content, which supports a soft, conditioning skin feel and good oxidative stability.
Why formulators use it
-
Skincare: Neutral aroma and medium absorbency make it easy to work into balms, body oils, and salves where you want slip and conditioning without strong olive notes.
-
Soapmaking: Favoured for cold-process because pomace often traces faster than extra virgin or refined olive, helping unmould sooner. It produces a mild, conditioning bar and can be used at any level from a small supporting oil to 100% (Castile-style).
How to use
- Leave-on products: 5–100% depending on texture goals.
- Rinse-off: any typical level in creams, scrubs, and cleansers.
- Cold-process soap: 5–40% in blends, or up to 100% for Castile-style bars. Be ready for quicker trace than standard refined olive oil.
Formulation notes
- Works well with most butters, esters, waxes, and emulsifiers.
- Refined pomace has a paler colour and lighter scent than unrefined grades, so it plays nicely with fragrance and essential oils.
- Store cool and airtight to preserve freshness.
